about
Chicago-born MC RacecaR started rhyming at the end of the 90s. After more than 10 years of touring and recording in the US, he moved to France in 2010 and started a whole new musical life. With both knockout performances and acclaimed featurings with Soul Square, DJ Suspect & Doc TMK, Sax Machine, Blanka, Mattic, or Chinese Man Records artists Son Of A Pitch and Taiwan MC, RacecaR is one of the most in-demand hip hop MCs in France.
Grant Phabao is the in-house producer and sound engineer for the French label Paris DJs. After pumpin' house hit singles for the Pro-Zak Trax label at the end of the 90s he started producing dub and reggae. After releasing albums with Jamaican legends Carlton Livingston, The Lone Ranger, The Jays or The Silvertones, and remixes for the whole planet, from George Clinton to Alice Russell, from David Byrne to Shawn Lee, from Jurassic 5 to The Beta Club… he started producing African music, working with the likes of Ebo Taylor, musicians from Fela's Egypt 80, Antibalas, The Souljazz Orchestra, Brownout or
Franck Biyong.
RacecaR & Grant Phabao met at Paris DJs' studio, thanks to an introduction from hip hop activist Miska with whom the French label has been doing hip hop-themed compilations this year. They decided to try something new together. Grant Phabao had never produced any hip hop artist before. And RacecaR had never tried to write and record on afrofunk or reggae music in the past. So they planned to produce 4 new tunes together, and blend RacecaR's unmistakable flow with Phabao's unique take on deeply funky African and Jamaican grooves.
'Return Of The Dig-Fu' is the first of those four productions, boldly subtitled 'Hip Hop Meets Afrofunk', it's a 'Let's play it again' versus ' I need this for my set' kind of tune. With rhymes evoking the digger's lust for the rare groove in vinyl in inside all of us, this first single from Grant Phabao & RacecaR is an unstoppable afro-funk-hip-hop monster that should let every listener wondering what's gonna come next from the crazy minds of this smoking duo.
lyrics
REFRAIN
I'm gonna sit back,
Front, and let the style hit you
Takes a second two seconds
before the switch flew
Proper game deeper than the gain
Reaching to your brain
Featuring a vein
Before the bug bit you
Who can question the quality and the nth degree
Studied patterns before check out my melody
Re-applied with a cool, calm mastery
Fools fall faster than who has gone past the peak
VERSE
Most times, be in the mood to just slide, by
Rimshot let the rides ride
My my, what a scene, seen? as we drive by
RacecaR keeps the eyes high
Nice vine, nice vibe leads to a nice time
Best believe, it's the right kind
Slim spot, we slipping in, high like the tides rise
Get in where you fit in, left or right side
Drums drop crisp as a fine dry white wine
all in all that's a nice nine
Tight lines with a loose feeling open like sky
Open like minds of like minds
REFRAIN
I'm gonna sit back,
Front, and let the style hit you
Takes a second two seconds
before the switch flew
Proper game deeper than the gain
Reaching to your brain
Featuring a vein
Before the bug bit you
Who can question the quality and the nth degree
Studied patterns before check out my melody
Re-applied with a cool, calm mastery
Fools fall faster than who has gone past the peak
VERSE
Skills skills...more or less it's words
No small games involved y'all we bless and verb-->
Watch you fall, frame revolves It's less the curb
and more than clouds, touch past the hints and blurbs
Tints and curves, no matter the tense and nerves,
Since it's served colder than the bench and herbs
Convinced? We're sure you'll vibe on it pinch and serve
Superb word worded pure, the print was cured
See, change is good not the allure of glam
Forgot the glitz, we shift to third my mans
Agreed? take the lead, lead, succeed, and breathe--->
Touchdown like black thought and we shall proceed
Proceed and continue
We shall proceed and continue
to rock the mic right
REFRAIN
I'm gonna sit back,
Front, and let the style hit you
Takes a second two seconds
before the switch flew
Proper game deeper than the gain
Reaching to your brain
Featuring a vein
Before the bug bit you
Now who can question the quality and the nth degree
Studied patterns before, check out my melody
Reapplied with a cool, calm mastery
Fools fall faster than who's gone past the peak
REPRISE
Distance indifferent to this limit
advance and enhance to quit gimmicks
The band glad we had chance to hit spinach
(From) The bandstand to fat stance we fit in it
-Instance and inference to this tenant
Last lap and grabbed track to just split it
The grandstand we can't land till it's fitting
The clan stands, the path grand fill this minute-*(for the live, not on album)

Analog Africa is by far my favourite gateway to the amazing music of the African continent... I must have missed this album by release, so I made this an early christmas present to myself. This is some serious funky shizzle!!! Mr Crumbone

Why do you love this album? Well, it is the quality of ALL the Analog Africa releases , the astonishing presentation- artwork, AWESOME booklets, the mastering, the music first of all and the feeling you connect with it and the artists involved. Due to not earning enough I changed from vinyl to CDs, but I am glad for the high quality downloads of the vinyl only releases that you are able to burn to disc. Together with a chosen few others AA is a greater than great label. Period. Markus Bader
